Love Adopts and Redeems
God made a covenant with David in 2 Samuel 7. David longed to build a house for the Lord, but God turned it around and promised to build David a house instead. Not a building of stone, but a family line and a kingdom that would last forever. That promise pointed directly to Jesus, the Son of David.
After hearing this, David sat before God and said, “Who am I, Sovereign Lord, that you have brought me this far?” He was overwhelmed by a love that reached further than he ever expected.
Paul describes that love as adoption. Through Christ, we are not slaves. We are children. We are co-heirs. Adoption is more than a status change. It is God’s embrace, welcoming us into His family. His love chooses us, calls us His own, and gives us a new identity.
God’s promise of restoration finds its fulfillment here. He gives us a place in His household. This is what Advent celebrates: the Son of God entering our world so that we could enter His family.
If you ever wrestle with feelings of being unloved or unwanted, Advent speaks directly to you. Through Jesus, you are not just accepted. You are adopted, redeemed, and forever part of the family of God.
For Prayerful Consideration:
Where do you struggle most to believe you are God’s beloved child?
How might the truth of adoption change the way you relate to Him and to others?
Prayer
Father, thank You for adopting me into Your family. Let me live each day in the freedom and joy of being Your child.
